Provider data on My Specialty Dentist comes from authoritative public sources and is verified through multiple layers:
- NPI Registry (NPPES) — Every provider is verified against the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System maintained by CMS. This confirms their identity, credentials, and active practice status.
- Specialty board certifications — Board certification data is cross-referenced against the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO), American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD), American Board of Dental Anesthesiology (ADBA), and other specialty boards.
- Identity verification for claimed profiles — Providers who claim their profiles go through phone-based identity verification. We confirm they are who they say they are before giving them control of their profile.

We earn revenue from specialists who choose to subscribe to features that do not affect ranking, plus a few advertising surfaces that are clearly labeled. The order of streams below reflects how we plan to operate, with the same rule running through every line: rank is earned by credentials and peer endorsements, never bought.
- Display ads. You may see banner ads on educational pages. Those ads are sold through third-party ad networks, and never appear on provider profiles, condition pages, or treatment pages. They never affect who ranks where.
- Enhanced specialist profiles. Specialists can subscribe to additional profile features, including extended bios, video, photos, and a dedicated landing page hosted on MSD. Enhanced profiles cost the patient nothing, and never move a specialist higher in our rankings.
- Promoted listings. Sometimes you will see a specialist labeled Promoted alongside, not inside, the ranked results. Promoted listings are clearly marked, follow the same credential and verification rules as the rest of the directory, and never replace or reorder the merit-based rank. They work the way ads work on Google search: visible, labeled, optional to click.
- Lead notifications. When you submit an appointment request, we deliver it to the specialist at no cost to you. Specialists pay a small fee for each inquiry, and never for ranking position.
- Sponsored content. If we publish sponsored articles, they are clearly labeled, never appear inside clinical condition or treatment pages, and never influence what we recommend.
